In the flight deck of any commercial airliner, you’ll find at least twopilots. To the right sits the first officer, also known as the copilot or the second in command. On the left is the pilot in command, also known as the captain. While both pilots take turns in flying the plane, as the pilot in command, the captain is legally responsible for the safe operation of the flight and is ultimately the final authority as to the decisions that are made.
