The Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA) has banned most helicopter routes near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) indefinitely following a fatal midair collision Wednesday night between American Airlines Flight 5342 and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. All 67 passengers on board died in the crash, which plunged both planes into the Potomac River, making it the worst aviation accident to strike the United States since 2001.
