Canada’s CH-146 Griffon Life Extension Program

Canada has announced a life-extension program for its Bell CH-146 Griffon multirole utility helicopters. As a military variant of the Bell 412, they are relatives of the iconic UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) family of helicopters made famous in Vietnam. Canada purchased a fleet of 100 of these aircraft in the 1990s, of which more than 80 remain in service. The Griffon’s life extension is an interim measure as Canada looks for a new and more capable platform. While the US Army’s incoming V-280 Valor has been touted as an option, Canada is currently assessing its options.
